Why does Christopher Nolan refuse to use CGI?

Nolan started his career by studying English literature at the University College London (UCL), after being rejected from film school. Although film school would have been the traditional route to follow for any aspiring director, Nolan used the opportunity to read English literature, which perhaps influences the films he directs today.
When you watch a Christopher Nolan film, there are always compelling visuals that add to the dramatic tension of the film; Christopher Nolan achieves this all without the use of CGI. CGI stands for Computer-generated imagery and is used in filmmaking to create visual effects that are hard to replicate in real life.
There are probably several times Christopher Nolan could have used CGI but still refuses to.
Christopher Nolan spoke to Empire Magazine and said, “But there is something very unique and particular about being out in a desert in the middle of the night with a big cast, and really just doing some enormous explosions and capturing that. You couldn’t help but come back to this moment when they were doing this on the ultimate scale, that in the back of their minds they knew there was this possibility that they would set fire to the atmosphere. It was pretty amazing to engage in that kind of tension.”
