Manchester United has announced that it has secured the land required to build its new 100,000-seater stadium, which will become "the biggest sporting arena in the UK."

In March 2025, Manchester United announced plans to build a new stadium. The project is estimated to cost around £2 billion.

The investment is about more than just increasing the club's seating capacity, which is currently 74,310 at its current home stadium, Old Trafford. The scheme is set to provide public facilities, improve transport links, and contribute £7.3 billion each year to the UK economy.

The club has acquired a 25-acre site located 350 metres north-west of its current stadium.

The stadium was designed by Foster + Partners, a leading British architecture and design firm founded by Norman Foster. Foster + Partners previously designed the Lusail Stadium, Qatar's largest football stadium, which has a capacity of 88,966.

There is mixed opinion among Manchester United supporters regarding the new stadium, as their current home, Old Trafford, has played a significant role in both Manchester United's history and football history as a whole. Old Trafford is where Manchester United achieved its Treble-winning season, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League.

Should a stadium that holds so many memories for fans around the world be replaced?
